TEXARKANA, Texas (KTAL/KMSS) – Texarkana, Texas metropolis council members are discussing the potential for approving guidelines that might permit the institution of an leisure district in downtown Texarkana on the Texas facet of the state line.
Leaders say the foundations can be according to the Arkansas-side entertainment district, established in 2019, to maintain the stream of the leisure district it doesn’t matter what facet of the state line you’re on.
“Arkansas already has this ordinance in place, so we are attempting to match it on the Texas facet simply so folks can get pleasure from downtown regardless of which facet of the state line they’re on,” Metropolis of Texarkana Public Info Officer Lisa Thompson mentioned.
The council is contemplating amending the city’s ordinance regarding alcoholic beverages with a view to present for open containers of alcoholic drinks within the district throughout hours not already prohibited by current ordinances governing prolonged hours of consumption:
21-3(a) An individual commits an offense if he consumes or possesses with intent to devour an
alcoholic beverage in a public place at any time on Sunday between 2: 15 a. m. and Midday
and on every other day between 2: 15 a.m. and seven: 00 a. m.
“The district, for probably the most half, coincides with our downtown Arts and Historic District, and contains the Perot Theatre, Texarkana Regionals Arts Middle, the Artwork Park, the Kress Hole, the Ace of Golf equipment Home, Pecan Level, and Silvermoon on Broad, however doesn’t embody the Bi-State Justice Middle,” in line with the proposed ordinance.
“As a result of the creation of this downtown leisure district may create extra waste, metropolis workers will consider the necessity for extra trash receptacles in downtown, and the schedule for waste removing,” the ordinance reads.
The proposed ordinance prohibits the usage of glass containers for any liquid on public streets, sidewalks, or alleys, and doesn’t battle with already current noise ordinances already on the books.
The council is predicted to vote at their subsequent assembly on June 7.
